• You are required to conduct research to find at least five resources provided by government or independent agencies to support your client.

• These resources should potentially assist your client with providing further information and support regarding the context.

• Research at least three different councils and two agencies in your state to identify the services they provide which could support your client with the issue you identified in Assessment 1.

• Develop your own program (service) ideas by referring to a framework, theory, or approach covered in Weeks 1-6.

• Provide evidence that your idea could benefit the client by providing end-text references to 5 peer reviewed scholarly journals adopting APA 7th style.

After discussing Task 1A, a culturally appropriate service identified for the client is the Multicultural Australia Community Engagement and Settlement Services. Brisbane-based this service provides culturally responsive programs to Bhutanese people and newly arrived migrants and refugees (Yangden & Penjor, 2021). It offers assistance in community connection, employment, cultural orientation, and mental health referrals. This agency is given to the client’s background and any assignment of cultural dislocation or alienation, to appreciate and acknowledge identity, tradition, and belonging. This supports the community service worker’s aim of enabling meaningful support grounded in cultural sensitivity, fostering the service in cultural inclusion as well as social participation (Davidson et al., 2022). That said, interpreters and bilingual workers are also available for enhanced accessibility. This would be a keenly important contribution to the client’s social well-being and empowerment.

Service Assist

As this is a program that appears to most relate to my client’s cultural background and likely settlement needs I chose this program. I think this service will be highly beneficial as my client is from Bhutan and he or she might be facing difficulties of social isolation, cultural adjustment, and traveling in unfamiliar systems. It is the strong focus on supporting culturally as well as linguistically diverse communities, especially newly arrived migrants and refugees that made me want to work in this agency.

Through this service, my client could get some practical support to utilize their housing, education opportunities, employment pathways, and health services. Another addition to the greater good of the program is the community connection activities. I believe this is very important for someone coming from Bhutan which is a tightly knit, spiritually rich culture (Lepcha et al., 2022). Additionally, having bilingual staff to bridge any communication or cultural gaps would be available, and culturally appropriate resources would be available. According to this service, in referring my client to this service, they would be supported not only in the process of settling into Australian society but also in maintaining their culture and being empowered in the new country. Here I made this choice because I want to be a Person-centered, Culturally Safe, Inclusive Community service worker.

Developing the Program

I am a community service worker and feel that we should implement programs and activities that represent the values and working traditions of Bhutanese communities, for instance, a cultural event that reflects Tshechu, a storytelling session or workshop for traditional dance, or a type of music. They would not only help the cultural life but help in preserving identities and creating a space of connection of community. I would also support the addition of materials in multilingual support or liaison roles dedicated to emerging Bhutanese communities to increase accessibility and trust (Yangden & Penjor, 2021). Moreover, I would encourage incorporating traditional values into group well-being and mental health sessions, in which people can engage with comfort. Educational workshops on how to navigate local services, how to find employment, and what rights they have would also enable clients to become more independent. These ideas would aid in building a culturally responsive and holistic support model valuing strengths of individual and community levels.
