PUBH6008: Capstone A - Applied Research Project in Public Health Report Sample

Instructions:

Students must discuss with their learning facilitator a potential project idea in module 1, week 1. By the end of module 1, students will be required to submit to their learning facilitator a one page outline of the project (non-graded) and a GANTT chart describing their project timeline.

The outline/summary will clearly identify the issue under investigation and justify its significance, and broadly explain how the project will be approached and its feasibility. The learning facilitator must approve the project and evaluate it in terms of its feasibility, scope, workload implications, ethics and rigour. You must not proceed on the project without the approval of the learning facilitator. Failure to obtain approval of the project idea at an early stage may lead to delays in the development of the project.

Students may select a topic related to their current public health practice/program/organization, or may analyse publically available datasets (e.g. Google Explore) or publicly available online text content as part of their research project.

Introduction

In the health care setting, the health care workers play an integral role to deliver quality services to vulnerable individuals. In fact, they act as the backbone of the health care system that helps it to function in a smooth and efficient manner. The aim of the research is to critically explore how COVID 19 is leading to anxiety among health care workers and affecting their health and well-being. The study would help to design suitable interventions so that the professionals could get the necessary help to improve their mental health while delivering care during the pandemic times.

Brief Literature Review

Studies show that the COVID 19 has taken a toll on the mental health and well-being of health care workers. According to Sahebi (2021), health care workers have been working at the forefront in the fight against Covid. This increases the vulnerability of their mental health. The findings show that the pandemic has increased the level of anxiety among the professionals (Sahebi et al., 2021). Similarly, researcher Alzaid (2020) has also ascertained that COVID has negatively impacted the psychological health of health care professionals as they are concerned about getting infected themselves or getting their family members infected (Alzaid et al., 2020).

Conclusion

The though research study relating to anxiety in health care workers due to Covid 19 would help to understand their challenges in the prevailing health setting. It would aid to design suitable interventions that could help health care practitioners to take care of their mental health during the pandemic while working in the healthcare landscape.
