Assessment Task

Your task in Assessment 1 is to reflect on your current level of emotional intelligence by completing the Genos Emotional Intelligence Report, analysing your results and preparing a brief report on your results and their implications for your development as a leader or influencer of people in your communities, social networks and workplaces.

Instructions for accessing the Genos Emotional Intelligence Report will be provided by your Learning Facilitator

Please read the instructions carefully and respond to the questions as honestly as possible, so that you get a meaningful set of results. Analysing results When you receive your results, look at your report, read the background material in the Module 1.2 Resources section and on the Genos website. You should then prepare a 1,000- word report which covers the following issues:

1) A brief discussion of the theoretical foundation of Emotional Intelligence and its relevance to effective leadership;

2) Your initial reactions to your results: provide at least two examples of where have you experienced your level of emotional intelligence assisting or limiting your capacity to influence other people;

3) Your initial thoughts on how you can continue to develop your level of emotional intelligence to enhance the effectiveness of your personal and workplace relationships.

Do not include your results in the body of your report. You will need to submit a copy of your report with your submission.
Please note that it is quite difficult to cover these three points in 1,000 words – pre-plan what you intend to say and revise your work repeatedly to increase the impact of your writing. Avoid unnecessary discussion and ensure every sentence contributes positively to the discussion and is aligned with the requirements of the assessment brief.

Reflexive Writing - First Person

Introduction

Emotional intelligence is closely associated with authentic leadership. A leader or an individual who is self-aware and self-accepting are identified as an emotionally intelligent person (Craig, et.al., 2015). The emotional intelligence of an individual helps in creating a positive work culture. University Assignment Help, Such a work culture is responsible for increasing efficiency and productivity within the workplace. According to the theory proposed by Daniel Goleman, self-control, the ability to motivate others, and persistence are a few important aspects of emotional intelligence (Goleman, 2020). Thus, to become an effective leader an individual should focus on testing their emotional intelligence. This report aims at reflecting upon my emotional intelligence with the help of the Genos Emotional Intelligence Report. The objective of this report is to focus on the performance measurement that is closely associated with the emotional intelligence of an individual (Brody, et.al, 2020). This report also aims at discussing my initial reactions and thoughts after seeing the report.

Reflection

Initial Reactions

In my opinion and as per the result of the Genos Emotional Intelligence Report, my authenticity score as per the level of importance and demonstration is 4.4 and 4..6 respectively. A person who is authentic and expresses their real version, in the workplace can gain both happiness and success (Cha, et.al., 2019). I have always focused on developing my feelings in the right place and at the right time. For example, during any group work, I always encourage others to speak about their problems and discuss solutions because I believe in effective communication among team members. Thus, I consider this result to be true because this trait of mine has helped me to influence people near me.

However, as per the result of the report, my self-management score is 3.9 for both level of importance and demonstration. I often find it difficult to adapt to any changes in circumstances. For example, I prevent myself from showing an outgoing behaviour when I am introduced with a new assignment and new colleagues. Thus, I consider this result to have an impact on my ability to influence people at work. In addition to this, my ability to influence an individual positively is also below average. I have scored 3.4 both in level of importance and demonstration. Positive influence within the workplace helps in building relationships with peers (Helpguide.org). Moreover, a leader can only become successful if they can positively influence others and create a positive environment. Thus, I consider this result to be true and it can further have an impact on my career.

On the other hand, I have focused on improving my emotional reasoning. In emotional reasoning, I have scored 3.9 and 4.3 in level of importance and demonstration respectively. As per the result of the report, I focus on asking people about solutions to a potential problem and try to understand their emotional state. For example, while making any decision within the team, I focus on considering one issue or decision with different perspectives. This trait of mine can further assist me to influence other people in the workplace and become an effective leader.

Developing Emotional intelligence

The above part of the report suggests that there is various scope for improving my emotional intelligence skills. Primarily I need to focus on developing my self-management skills. Knowledge workers who can further manage themselves can create wealth in the economy (Palvalin, et.al., 2017). This is how self-management can help me to develop my career. In my opinion, I should focus on embracing my strengths. For example, due to globalisation, managers focus on creating diverse and inclusive work environment. In such scenario, I should focus on leveraging these strengths to build a strong relationship with my workplace peers and colleagues irrespective of their cultural and linguistic backgrounds. I need to also develop goals for myself. Short-term and long-term goals can help me to understand the purpose of my life and they can further assist me to develop my career. In my opinion, a good leader can understand and control their own emotions. Thus, I need to focus on becoming aware of my feelings and managing these feelings in order to build effective relationships within the workplace.

In addition to this, I need to also focus on developing my awareness skills. In awareness, I have scored 3.3 and 4.3 in level of importance and demonstration respectively. Awareness within the workplace is important because it helps in creating solidarity in the firm and help an individual to make collective decisions (Tassinari & Maccarrone, 2020). In my opinion, open-mindedness can improve my awareness skills. I should focus on adapting to relevant changes in the workplace. For example, I should learn advanced technical skills to cope with digital transformation within the workplace. Moreover, I should focus on developing my non-verbal communication skills. Decoding non-verbal cues received from an individual within the workplace can further help me to develop my awareness skills.

Furthermore, from the report, it can be found that I have scored moderately in the field of emotional reasoning. Thus, to develop my emotional intelligence skills and become an effective leader I need to also focus on improving my emotional reasoning skills. I need to primarily focus on practicing active listening. When an individual listens attentively to the speaker it is known as active listening skills. Moreover, the ability of an individual to answer any question perfectly is known as active listening skills (Xiao, et.al., 2020). In my opinion, active listening skills can help me to improve my ability to understand the emotion of the people who are communicating. This can further help me to develop compassion and this is how I can focus on improving my emotional reasoning skills. In addition to this, I should also focus on becoming aware of my emotional triggers.

Conclusion

This report aimed at reflecting upon my emotional intelligence skills. The findings of the report suggest that the Genos Emotional Intelligence test has been conducted to understand my emotional intelligence level. I considered this result to have a high impact on my personality. From the result, it can be found that though my level of authenticity is high, I need to become more aware of my surroundings, focus on managing myself and develop my emotional reasoning skills. Thus, to improve such skills, I should focus on developing active listening skills, become more flexible, and analyse the strengths that can be further leveraged by me while undertaking any decisions.
